Challenge: Getting along
My
original tribe, Rotu, landed on the more difficult beach. It was
dank, buggy, and we had no easily accessible food. We faced so much
adversity, we couldn’t think about the million dollars or winning.
Instead, we talked about finding food. We shared stories of our
families. We talked about the adventure of building a society together.
This camaraderie created a bond the producers hadn’t witnessed on previous episodes of the show. I think we bonded because of the hardship. All of our emotional baggage fell away pretty fast — it had to. We had to accept each other, work together, and open up. That was literally how we survived.
When the challenges came around, we desperately wanted to win them. They were fun and relieved us of the drudgery of getting by. They also inspired us. We won seven challenges in a row, and that gave us even more energy to work together.
