Challenge:
To get your body involved
I have always been pretty athletic and in shape. Prior to Survivor:
Marquesas, I had been gaining weight. Even though I was eating healthily
and going to the gym, I was sort of cashing out. I was 47 years
old. I think a part of me wondered if I was just too old to change.
On the island, a physical strength emerged almost instinctively. I think our bodies want that. There I was building a shelter, diving for shells, and executing some difficult physical challenges.
I started toning up and slimming down. My body started to represent the clarity, simplicity, and strength I was feeling inside. And I learned that the body and the brain work in tandem. Tenacity, drive, and determination stepped in to keep my body going; in turn, overcoming physical challenges empowered me enormously.
